Tips for Managing Junk and Spam Mail Filters

Hotmail http://www.hotmail.com/

1. Login to your Hotmail account.
2. In the left hand link bar, select Mail.
3. Select the Options tab (in the upper right portion of your screen).
4. Under Mail Options, select the Junk E-Mail Protection link.
5. Select the Safe List link.
6. In the “Type an Address or Domain” dialog box, enter: uiowa.edu .
7. Select Add to finish the process.

Yahoo http://mail.yahoo.com/

1. Login to your Yahoo mail account.
2. Select the Options link (in the upper right portion of your screen).
3. Under Mail Options | Management, select Filters.
4. Select Add.
5. In the Filter Name box, enter: uiowa.
6. In the From Header box, enter: uiowa.edu.
7. In the Then field, look in the “Move the message to” dialog box, and select Inbox.
8. To finish the process, select Add Filter at the bottom left of the screen.

GMail http://gmail.google.com/

Google does not run a junk mail filter for its GMail accounts. The only reason a University of Iowa e-mail would be filtered is if you set up your own filter that sorted it somewhere that you defined.

Typically, a UI e-mail account will not block e-mail e-mail sent from another UI e-mail address; however, if you are not receiving e-mails, you are encouraged to review the threshold you have sent for spam.
