Tips for Managing Junk and Spam Mail Filters
Hotmail http://www.hotmail.com/
- Login to your Hotmail account.
- In the left hand link bar, select Mail.
- Select the Options tab (in the upper right portion of your screen).
- Under Mail Options, select the Junk E-Mail Protection link.
- Select the Safe List link.
- In the “Type an Address or Domain” dialog box, enter: uiowa.edu .
- Select Add to finish the process.
Yahoo http://mail.yahoo.com/
- Login to your Yahoo mail account.
- Select the Options link (in the upper right portion of your screen).
- Under Mail Options | Management, select Filters.
- Select Add.
- In the Filter Name box, enter: uiowa.
- In the From Header box, enter: uiowa.edu.
- In the Then field, look in the “Move the message to” dialog box, and select Inbox.
- To finish the process, select Add Filter at the bottom left of the screen.
GMail http://gmail.google.com/
Google does not run a junk mail filter for its GMail accounts. The only reason a University of Iowa e-mail would be filtered is if you set up your own filter that sorted it somewhere that you defined.

Typically, a UI e-mail account will not block e-mail e-mail sent from another UI e-mail address; however, if you are not receiving e-mails, you are encouraged to review the threshold you have sent for spam.
