New Students (non-degree only)
STEP #2
Registration Pre-Authorization
If you are not currently admitted to The University of Iowa and this is your first academic encounter here, registration will be a multi-step process. Complete the Registration Pre-Authorization form. This will allow us to set up your initial academic record at the UI and enter you as a Non-Degree student. If your intention is to be admitted to The University of Iowa in a degree program, you must apply through the Office of Admissions.
Hawk ID and Password
A Hawk ID is your username for online access to ISIS (The University of Iowa’s Student Information System). You can register for courses, view tuition, set up e-mail, change your mailing address, and various other functions through ISIS.
Your Hawk ID will be created after your Registration Pre-Authorization has been processed. New Hawk ID’s are generated nightly, so if this request is submitted during regular office hours, the earliest you will receive online access is the following business day. Weekend submissions will not be processed until the next business day. We make every attempt to enter your information into the system immediately, but there may be delays during peak registration periods.
Your Hawk ID and password will be e-mailed to the e-mail address you provide on the Pre-Authorization form. If that address is not valid, returned as undeliverable, or is bounced back as spam by your provider, a paper copy of your Hawk ID and Password will be mailed to the address you provided on the Pre-Authorization form.
If you do not receive your Hawk ID and password within several business days of your Pre-Authorization, call the Admissions Office at 800-553-IOWA and ask them to provide your Hawk ID and reset your password, or visit the HawkID Guide for assistance.
Registration Date and Time
Once you are entered into the system as a Non-Degree student you are assigned a registration date and time. Using your Hawk ID and password, log in to the ISIS Registration menu to find out when you are eligible to register. You will not be allowed to register until on or after your assigned registration date and time.
Four-digit Registration Code
Non-Degree students registering through the Center for Credit Programs (CCP) are not required to have a four-digit registration code (advisor approval) to register. If the ISIS Registration screen alerts you to enter your four-digit number, contact the CCP, and we will override this requirement.
Admissions Profile
To check the accuracy of your Admissions Profile, go to ISIS, then the Student Records menu. Here you will also find how to set up your e-mail account, obtain a Student ID Card, and other useful information.
You need an active UI e-mail account in order to receive important University and course-related information. Activate your UI e-mail account in the My UIowa menu in ISIS immediately. You are responsible for information sent to your UI e-mail account. If you prefer, you may route your UI e-mail to an alternate address such as Yahoo! or Hotmail.
STEP #3
Register Directly in ISIS
Once you have your Hawk ID and password and are eligible to register, you may add courses to your schedule using the Rapid Registration and Power Registration functions in the ISIS Registration menu.
Non-degree students are only eligible to register in courses offered through the Center for Credit Programs. Specifically, you are eligible to take courses only in the CCP programs you request at Pre-Authorization. To determine the types of courses you are eligible to register for, go to the Courses menu in ISIS or Power Registration, check the boxes on the right (Saturday & Evening OR Distance Education) that correspond to the program to which you applied on the Registration Pre-Authorization form. You can narrow your search using additional criteria such as department, keywords, etc. then only the courses in the program for which you are eligible will be shown.
If you can’t recall which program you are authorized to take courses through, find this information in:
a) Your e-mail confirmation from the Pre-Authorization form.
b) Your Admissions Profile in ISIS under the Student Records menu.
c) or from The Center for Credit Programs at credit-programs-register@uiowa.edu, 800-272-6430)
You must abide by specific course requirements as listed in the course description, prerequisites, and special permission coding and can only register if space is available. You may add and drop courses in ISIS until midnight the day before the semester begins (for semester-length courses) or up to the day before the course start date (for off-cycle courses). If the course does not have a start date listed, it is a semester-length course. Off cycle-courses list start and end dates.
STEP #4
My Course
Once you have registered in course work through The Center for Credit Programs you should visit My Course to learn how to begin or access your course.
If you have questions regarding pre-authorization or registration, contact the Center for Credit Programs at credit-programs-register@uiowa.edu
or 800-272-6430 or 319-335-2575.
