Returning Non-Degree Students

Step #2

Registration Pre-Authorization

Returning Non-Degree students who have been absent from The UI for 12 months or more and wish to resume course work in Non-Degree status must first complete a Registration Pre-Authorization. This will allow us to update your previous Non-Degree student status.

Hawk ID and Password

You should already know your Hawk ID and Password, which will remain unchanged from your previous registration.

If you do not know your Hawk ID, have forgotten your password or your password has expired since your last UI registration, visit the Hawk ID Guide for assistance. You may also contact the Office of Admissions or call 800-553-IOWA to have it reset.

Registration Date and Time

When we update your application for re-entry, we assign you a registration date and time. If ISIS does not allow you to register for this reason, contact the Center for Credit Programs. You may only register in ISIS on or after your assigned time.

There are other reasons (Not Permitted to Register) that ISIS may not allow you to register such as overdue U-bill, health immunization requirements, transcript requirements, etc. ISIS alerts you to such blocks and directs you to the appropriate office to resolve them.

Four-Digit Registration Code

Non-Degree students through the Center for Credit Programs do not require a four-digit registration code (advisor approval) to register. If the ISIS Registration screen prompts you to enter a four-digit number to register, contact The Center for Credit Programs and we will override this requirement.

Admissions Profile

To view your Admissions Profile, go to ISIS then Student Records. Check your profile for accuracy and learn how to set up your e-mail account, how to obtain a Student ID Card, and other useful information.

E-Mail

You need an active UI e-mail account in order to receive important University and course-related information. You are responsible for information sent to your UI e-mail account. Activate your UI e-mail account in the My UIowa menu in ISIS immediately. If you prefer, you may route your UI e-mail to an alternate account such as Yahoo! or Hotmail.

Step #3

Ready to Register?

Once you have your Hawk ID and password and are eligible to register, you may add courses to your schedule using the Rapid Registration and Power Registration functions in the ISIS Registration menu.

Non-degree students may only register in courses requested at Pre-Authorization through the Center for Credit Programs. To determine the types of courses for which you are eligible to register, go to the Courses menu in ISIS or to Power Registration, check the boxes on the right (Saturday & Evening OR Distance Education) that correspond to the program you applied for on the Registration Pre-Authorization form. To narrow your search, choose additional criteria such as department or keywords. The results will show only the courses for which you are eligible.

If you cannot recall the program for which you are authorized, find it in:

a)  The E-mail confirmation from the Pre-Authorization form,

b)  Your Admissions Profile in ISIS under the Student Records menu,
c)  or Contact the Center for Credit Programs
(credit-programs-register@uiowa.edu, 800-272-6430)

You must abide by specific course requirements as listed in the course description, prerequisites, and special permission coding. You may only register if space is available. You may add and drop courses in ISIS until midnight the day before the semester begins (for semester-length courses) or until the day before the course starts (for off-cycle courses). If the course does not have a start date listed, it is a semester-length course. Off cycle-courses list start and end dates.

Step #4

My Course

Once you are registered, visit My Course to learn how to begin or access your course.

If you have questions regarding registration, contact The Center for Credit Programs at 800-272-6430 or 319-335-2575 or e-mail credit-programs-register@uiowa.edu

If you have questions regarding pre-authorization or registration, contact the Center for Credit Programs at credit-programs-register@uiowa.edu or telephone 800-272-6430 or 319-335-2575.
