The Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS)
External Degree Program

BAS Bulletin

Our BAS program is designed for graduates of community college programs who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree, but who, due to family and/or employment responsibilities, cannot engage in traditional on-campus study.

With enrollment in Distance Education courses you may complete your degree without attending classes on campus.  To participate in the BAS program, it is essential to have Internet access.  University of Iowa blended format course work also is offered on selected Iowa community college campuses.

You don't declare a major or minor so the BAS degree program does not have departmental major requirements.  Instead, you choose your areas of emphasis and work with an advisor to develop your own plan of study within the parameters of the degree requirements.

An interdisciplinary approach to course work can reflect your interests as well as incorporate certificate programs into your studies.  The following certificates are available entirely via Distance Education:

offered by the College of Public Health.

The Bachelor of Applied Studies degree is awarded by University College.

Approved by the Iowa Board of Regents in June 2005 and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The University of Iowa BAS degree is quickly becoming a popular choice among persons wishing to complete their degrees at a distance.
