Bachelor of Applied Studies External Degree Program
Bachelor of Liberal Studies External Degree Program
RN-BSN Program
The College of Nursing provides an online program for registered nurses who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Prerequisite and general education courses can be completed at local community colleges, and credit may be given for prior education and experience. The program focuses upon professional development, health assessment, community health, research, leadership and management, and current issues and trends in nursing.
Master of Arts in Educational
Administration
The Educational Administration program offers degrees
and licensure for pre-K-12 school leadership. Courses
toward the masters degree/principal licensure are
delivered online to provide flexibility in scheduling for
working professionals.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) core courses are
available on the World Wide Web. Enrollment in courses
requires admission to the MSN program.
The MSW program prepares social workers for leadership in the profession and for advanced social work practice in a wide range of settings. The program's general focus is on family systems and social change, both domestic and international. In addition to the on-campus program, the MSW program is offered in Davenport, Des Moines, Ottumwa, and Sioux City.
Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management
Undergraduate students admitted to The University of
Iowa’s Tippie College of Business (COB), the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), and/or University College may earn a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management while pursuing their undergraduate
major. Courses are available to all Iowans via the World
Wide Web through the Center for Credit Programs.
Completion of 18 semester hours of course work for COB
students and 20 semester hours for CLAS students is
required for the certificate. The following four courses are
required: 06T:120, 06T:133, 06T:134, and 06T:150. At least
two electives also must be completed in order to fulfill
the remaining semester hours. The program was named
2004 USASBE National Model Entrepreneurship Program
by the United States Association of Small Business and
Entrepreneurship.
Certificate in Nonprofit Management
This 18-semester-hour certificate program prepares nonprofit workers in both large and small organizations to fulfill the unique demands of nonprofits. Courses delve into issues such as community and government partnerships, Web site development and maintenance, grant writing, and financial accountability. Persons in the Bachelor of Applied Studies and Bachelor of Liberal Studies external degree programs may incorporate the certificate into their degree work.
Certificate in Public Health
Certificate courses are primarily directed toward individuals in
public health practice who are currently in the workforce
as well as to individuals not presently working in the health
care system but who are considering a career in the field
of public health. Courses necessary for completing the
certificate are offered via the Internet in addition to courses
already offered on the UI campus and as part of the
Summer Institute. Nine of the 12 hours of certificate
course work can be applied toward the Master of Public
Health (MPH) degree if the student has an undergraduate
degree, is enrolled in graduate credit for all of the
certificate course work, and is admitted to the MPH
