Introduction
This section outlines the compensation procedures for the various types of course delivery including Distance Education (DE), Guided Independent Study (GIS), Winter session, Summer session, and Saturday and Evening.  Please go to the specific section for detailed information.

Appointment Information
Faculty who are have regular appointments at The University of Iowa usually do not require an additional or supplementary appointment to teach courses offered through the Center for Credit Programs during the regular academic year.  For the latest information about the summer session appointment process, go to http://provost.uiowa.edu/faculty/facappt/types/continuinged.htm
Instructors other than regularly appointed faculty require an academic appointment in association with their teaching. Academic appointments for Center for Credit Programs teaching assignments are initiated by the sponsoring academic department and are approved by the appropriate collegiate and central administration officials.

 Overload/Onload Teaching Assignments
Most faculty teach courses through the Center for Credit Programs in addition to their regular teaching load (i.e., on an overload basis) and receive extra compensation from the CCP for these courses.
Collegiate or departmental administrators and individual faculty may wish to consider the possibility that some courses may be taught through the Center for Credit Programs on an onload basis, as part of the faculty instructor’s regular teaching load.

Questions regarding the onload teaching assignment of courses offered through the CCP should be directed to the Associate Dean and Director, Center for Credit Programs.
