New Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) Degree Offered Through Distance Education
The Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) degree is designed for graduates of community college technical programs who wish to complete a four-year degree without interrupting their careers. The BAS degree contains four General Education requirements but does not have departmental major requirements or a campus residence requirement. Students work with an advisor to plan their own areas of study.
Students may earn credit toward the degree in courses offered through the Center for Credit Programs via campus-based or distance education formats or through daytime on-campus courses.
The BAS degree program was approved in June 2005 by the Iowa Board of Regents. The degree is awarded by the University College and administered by the Division of Continuing Education's Center for Credit Programs.
For more information, phone the Center for Credit Programs at 800-272-6430 or go to http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/ccp/courses_programs.htm#bas

Introducing ICON--Iowa Courses Online
ICON is the new course management system (cms) that eventually will replace WebCT and Blackboard at The University of Iowa. For GIS courses, all new enrollments in Web courses will take place in ICON beginning with the fall 2005 semester; other distance education courses will be phasing in ICON between now and summer 2006.
This multi-featured software interface facilitates the delivery of course material over the Web allowing instructors to employ dynamic components such as discussion boards, chatrooms, calendars, grade books, e-mail clients and digital delivery of course materials if they so choose.
