SkillSoft Online Courses
http://skillsoft.uiowa.edu/
SkillSoft courses are available at no charge to all
faculty, staff, and enrolled students at The University
of Iowa. Only a HawkID and password are required to
login to the courses. Over 2,000 non-credit courses are
available in competency areas ranging from Leadership
and Management to Workplace Effectiveness, including
Information Technology/Computer Skills. Courses are
available 24/7 from most IBM compatible PC’s with
Internet access.
Microsoft Campus License

Registered students are eligible for special rates
on Microsoft products under the Microsoft Campus
Agreement. Visit the Microsoft media page at the
University Bookstore (Electronics) Web site (above) for
details on the software license and to order Microsoft
media. Successful submission of e-mail assignments by
attachment may require the use of Microsoft Word.

Virtual ITC provides registered students with online
access to many of the computer applications available
at the Instructional Technology Centers: http://itc.uiowa.edu/. Program options include Help Desk Live, Microsoft
Office Professional 2003, various language supplements,
Adobe Acrobat, Dreamweaver, and more. Due to licensing
agreements, more program options are available when
logging in on a University-based computer.

Registered students have access to 100 megabytes of
secure, reliable, Web-accessible file storage space called
Student Academic File space service or SAFE. Students
can upload, download, and modify their academic-related
SAFE files in a variety of ways, including a MyFiles Web
browser interface, from anywhere in the world. SAFE
space is backed up regularly and files can be restored if
accidentally deleted or overwritten.

Anti-Virus Software

The University of Iowa site license for Anti-Virus software
for both Windows and Macintosh computers is available to
registered DE students at the ITS Software download site
(listed above). Refer to the Anti-Virus Center for details
regarding anti-virus downloads and virus alerts: http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/virus/.
Internet Service Provider

All students and instructors are eligible for remote access
services through ITS at The University of Iowa. No fees
are assessed for local, admitted students who pay the
student computing fee; for GIS students and instructors,
a $5 per month fee provides Internet service for dial-up
connections. See the Web site listed above for details,
including a list of 44 Iowa communities considered “local.”
A low-cost, long-distance access number, 866.759.IOWA
(4692), is available for calls outside the local area. There
is a usage fee of $0.10 per minute for this access. This
number is available in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
International calls are not supported. Note: Customers are
responsible for all charges incurred through the phone
company. Please check with your local phone company
to make sure that the number you are using to connect to
remote access will not include additional long distance or
local usage charges.
