Iowa Lakeside Laboratory Celebrates 100th Anniversary

The Iowa Lakeside Laboratory will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009.  To help celebrate this event, David Rogers’ Big Bugs will be exhibited at the Lab from July 4 to October 4, 2009.  This will be the first Iowa appearance of this popular exhibit, which combines art and science to entertain visitors and educate them about insects’ important role in the natural environment. This event is free and open to the public.

The Big Bugs are constructed mostly of wood including dead trees found in the forest.  They resemble the insects they represent but are not exact reproductions. Ten of the sculptures will be exhibited at Lakeside including three gigantic ants and a preying mantis 18 feet tall.  They will be displayed outdoors in natural settings accessible to all.   A photo gallery of the Bugs can be seen at www.big-bugs.com
