The Schedule is such that there is little time for recreation. The academic program is very rigorous and the teaching day is very long. Lunch and Dinner offer extended periods so students can toss a frisbee, play volleyball or basketball, or other outdoor activities. The Iowa Memorial Union is just across the Iowa River footbridge, and it houses a theater, game room, bookstore and more.

Every Sunday is "Sleep-in Sunday," in which Institute activities don't start until 1 pm.  This allows time for religious activities or to just relax.
