What Are The Details Of Arrival, Registration And Departure?
Arrival & Registration. Plan to arrive and register between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Reinow Hall, June 21, 2010. At registration, students pay any balance and $40 in cash or separate personal check for a refundable key deposit (cash returned as cash, checks returned as checks). They receive library, meal and identification cards, room key, residence hall rules and a campus map. Parents should plan to leave the registration and residence hall areas by 5:00 p.m. when students go to Hillcrest Dining for their first meal.
Planes or buses that arrive late. We will not leave the airport until every student has arrived, and when planes are late we will know. If someone misses his or her flight, we will make any arrangement necessary to meet a later one. If a student does not arrive, parents will be called. Upon arrival we have students contact a parent to inform them they have been met at the airport.
If at anytime during the travel process a student misses a flight, a flight is arriving later than expected, flight has been cancelled, or the flight has been changed you can call Paul Bellus at 319-430-8143 and we will make the necessary adjustments to our pickup schedule.
The same arrangements will be made for the bus depot.
Departure. The process of checking out begins at 9:00 p.m. and ends at midnight on the day before the departure date (this requires some time, e.g., library books returned, keys and airline tickets located, goodbyes, etc.). At 11:00 p.m., a final list of charter departures and passengers will be posted. UPS shipments will be accepted from students who need to send packages home. Students may not check out of the residence hall until their parent, guardian or shuttle for the airport arrives. Local students may depart after 9:00 p.m. on the last night. Others may depart Iowa City at any time between 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on the final day. Parents may arrive after 5:00 a.m. All students must be out of the dorm by noon on the day of departure.
Exceptions to Arrival and Departure. Early arrival or late departure for the Institute are not permitted. Responsibilities for staff begin at 10:00 a.m. on the day of registration and end at 12:00 p.m. on the last day. No supervision is possible outside that time frame, and no student can be accommodated in the residence hall who arrives early or departs late. However, accommodations at local hotels are available.
Local Accommodations. Early arrival or late departure arrangements made independent of the Institute are, of course, fine. Rooms are available at the Iowa House in the Memorial Union, 319/335-3513. The Iowa Memorial Union houses the hotel and a number of restaurants and shops. Other nearby accommodations are available at the Heartland Inn in Coralville 319/351-8132, or the Sheraton in Iowa City 319/337-4058. |
