What Is Not Included In The Cost Quotation?
Personal expenses. Costs in addition to the published fee for the Institute are: (1) health care, (2) laundry money, (3) out-of-pocket expense (photocopy costs for books or articles in the Libraries, Reserve Collection or from other students, late night snacks, supplies), (4) refrigerator rental, (5) towels are not furnished, (6) phones are not furnished, (7) lamps are not furnished.
Security Deposit. Students pay a $40 security deposit in cash at registration upon arrival. It is returned in cash on the last day if: (1) there is no damage, (2) room is in good order, (3) original key is returned, (4) there are no library obligations. The deposit helps assure that students have cash for travel on the last day. A personal check is acceptable for the security deposit, but is returned instead of cash on the last day. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR $40 SECURITY DEPOSIT IN CASH TO REGISTRATION ON THEIR ARRIVAL DATE if they wish to receive cash back.
Spending Money. Students should bring whatever money they are likely to spend. Large amounts of cash should be avoided. Travelers checks are accepted all over town. Spending money estimates should include individual photocopies made in the libraries (10¢ each) and from the Reserve Collection (10¢ each), UPS or shipping cost for materials sent home ($20 - $50), baggage charges ($75 for each bag in excess of two is typical), evening snacks, etc. Absolutely no mandatory fee is collected by individual laboratory leaders or Institute officials after registration.
Health Fees. Students pay the cost of any medical care required. Service is provided by Student Health and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Charges not paid by insurance are billed to students (Health Form requires confidential disclosures). |
