Frequently Asked Questions

What Are The Rules?

Agreements. As a community of learners, staff and students make certain agreements. While we are together, these agreements frame our thinking, conversation and behavior. The "Agreements" form outlines a set of general operating assumptions about appropriate or acceptable behavior at the Institute. It is intended in part to provide clear and advance notice of the kind of behavior that endangers participation at the Institute. We mean only to spell out what are for us minimum standards for providing a safe and healthy learning environment.

In signing the agreement form, students and parents are not saying they necessarily agree with the "rightness" of the statements or the ideas they contain, but only that while here, students will refrain from violating minimum requirements for meeting our obligations to them, their colleagues and families. Because the program is strenuous and intense, we emphasize rules that may seem conservative by day-to-day, at-home standards, but we do so to protect the rights and dignity of all participants, so that every student has the best opportunity to accomplish his or her goals.
