Bachelor of Applied Studies

The Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) degree at The University of Iowa is designed for graduates of community college technical programs who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree, but who, due to family and/or employment responsibilities, cannot engage in traditional, on-campus study.

The external BAS degree provides alternatives to traditional majors. Because the program does not have departmental major requirements, students work with an adviser to plan their own areas of emphasis. Students may incorporate one of two certificate programs into their BAS studies or may construct a focus
area by implementing an interdisciplinary approach:

Work Experience

The Bachelor of Applied Studies is designed for working AAS or
AS graduates who want to extend their formal education without
interrupting their careers. It is recommended that applicants have
a minimum of three years of work

Science (AS) from any Iowa community college,
with a 2.0 GPA
