Introduction to Feature Film Screenwriting
One-Week Workshop
June 7–12

Have you ever watched a movie and wondered, “Could I have written that?” This class will provide beginners with the opportunity to learn about the art and craft of screenwriting.

Screenwriting is part creation, part craft, and like any skill, it improves with practice. Classes will begin with a brief script analysis of a previously viewed film. After this introductory segment, we will focus on each participant’s work in a workshop atmosphere, including some in-class scene reads and critiques with an emphasis on the basics of visual storytelling, dialogue, and creating compelling, multi-dimensional characters. We will also examine standard formatting practices and discuss career-related questions as they arise.

Two weeks prior to our first session, please plan to submit a treatment (5-7 pages) of an original screenplay idea, as well as a significant portion of your screenplay’s First Act (25-35 pages).

Diana and Larry were writers and executive producers on four award-winning miniseries: Streets of Laredo and Comanche Moon for CBS, Dead Man’s Walk for ABC, and Johnson County War for Hallmark Entertainment.
