IT Course Problems
If, when opening a Technology Issues course for the first time, you have a security warning window pop up (see graphic below):
- We recommend you select “Always trust content from SkillSoft Corporation.” The program will then automatically open your courses.
- Otherwise, select "Yes" each time to open your courses.

If, when trying to play an IT course, the course gets stuck when loading (see graphic below):

Check to see if that Java Virtual Machine (JVM) or Microsoft VM are installed on your coJanuary 30, 2008ck Tools
- Choose Options
- Choose Advanced (see graphic below)

- If Java Virtual Machine (JVM) does not appear in your internet options box download it by visiting
http://java.com/ (see graphic below).
- Click Get it Now.
Note: The graphics on the site pictured below change often, but the options are fairly consistent.

Go through the screens choosing “Yes,” “I agree,” “Typical Install,” etc. in order to download the software. If you encounter any problems during the installation, please call the Division of Continuing Education at 1-319-335-2755 or 1-800-272-6430 or email
tech-support@www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu.
- When it is successfully downloaded (this may take a few minutes) you may need to reboot your computer (follow prompts).

Try logging in again. If you still cannot log in, call the Division of Continuing Education at 1-319-335-2755 or 1-800-272-6430 or email
tech-support@www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu.
Do you have a Google toolbar enabled that blocks popup's? (If so, it would look something like the graphic below). If you do, it will need to be disabled.

- Click on Options or Google on the left of the screen then select options from the drop down list.
- On the Options tab, deselect “Popup Blocker” (see graphic below).
- Click “Apply” and “OK”.
- When you’re done with the course, recheck the box to enable the popup blocker again.

If the Software Simulation exercises are not available, you will need to install Shockwave.
Note: You may have seen a popup asking if you’d like to install Shockwave; however Flash Object and Active X need to be installed for SkillSoft to function properly.

To verify what is installed on your computer:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Go to the Tools menu
- Choose Internet Options
- Click on the General tab
- Click the Settings button
- Click the View Objects button
If Shockwave Flash Object and Shockwave Active X Control do not appear:
- Go to: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/ for free downloads.
- Windows will automatically open asking you to install (see graphic below). Continue to go through the screens, saying “Yes” and “I Agree” in order to download the software.

When installation is complete, you should see the graphic below and hear music (if you have speakers).

Miscellaneous Issues
It is always beneficial to clear the cache.
To clear cache (see graphic below):
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Go to the Tools menu.
- Choose Internet Options.
- Click on the General tab.
- Click the Delete Cookies button.
- Click the Delete Files button.
- Click the Clear History button.
- Click the OK button.

Make sure you have done Windows Updates recently.
- Go to Tools in your browser.
- Click on Windows Update (or, in the address window, type in http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/).
- Scan for updates.
- Install all critical updates, you may also want to review and install Windows or driver updates.

Make sure your computer has the Minimum Workstation Requirements in order to run the program at optimum levels.
Hardware
- Minimum Pentium 166 MHz CPU required to support audio playback.
- Minimum 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended).
- Network connection to the web server via a web browser.
- End-user workstations must have a minimum video resolution of 800x600, with 16-bit color.
- Minimum 28.8 Kbps connection speed required for most products. It may take dial-up users 1-2 minutes to start a course.
Operating Systems
- 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating system: Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
- Mac Operating System (10.4), courses are playable from the Linux
Web Browsers
- Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 4.x or greater.
- Netscape Navigator, version 4.06 through 4.8, 6.2, 7.0, 7.1.
- Safari Web Browser, versions 2.0 and 2.0.4. (MAC)
- Firefox 1.5.0 (Linux) (Note:Java Runtime Envieronment for Firefox may be required)
Web Accessibility Support
- SkillPort supports JAWS screen reader software, versions 3.7u, 4.0, and 4.51.
- JAWS 3.7u and 4.0 require 256 color resolution.
Language Support The SkillPort Front End interface is available in several languages:
- English
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Italian
To change the language in which you view Skill Port, click on "Customize" from the SkillPort Home Page and choose "Configure Language Settings" (see graphic below).

Note: Changing the language of the SkillPort interface does not change the language in which the course content is viewed.

Q.How long will SkillSoft be available?
A. Your subscription period will last one calendar year from the date you enroll. During that time, you’ll have unlimited personal access to the catalog, to which you have subscribed, e.g.:
- the General Catalog,
- the Project Management Institute catalog, or
- the Microsoft IT catalog
If you’d like an additional subscription to
another ContinueToLearn with SkillSoft catalog, you can initiate
it and gain access any time by going to the “Start to
Order / Catalog” link on the http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/skillsoft/ homepage. This additional subscription would be good for one calendar year
from the time you initiate payment.

Q.Can I remove a course from My Plan?
A. If you originally put the course on your plan, you
can remove it. Click on the course title and choose "Modify My Plan.”
Scroll down, and click “Remove this course from My Plan.”

Learning & Development are partnering to go beyond The University of
Iowa campus to offer SkillSoft to the general public.
Login Questions
If you have forgotten your
password, please go to password lookup page (http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/skillsoft/PWDlookup.aspx).
There you enter your registered email address, the password will sent to
the email address. If you have forgotten your email address or have other questions about logging in, phone 1-319-335-2755 or

If you are getting a “ Page Not Found” error when logging in:
Are you accessing the course from a bookmark? If yes, do the following:
- Right click on the bookmark and select properties.
- Change the address in the URL box to http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/skillsoft/login.aspx and click OK.
- Close your browser.
- Reopen your browser and reselect the bookmark. It should now work correctly.

General Course Problems
If you've taken the tests but your scores are not recorded on your My Report page make sure:
- You’re exiting the course by clicking the “exit” tab at the bottom right of the screen and not the X in top right corner of window.

- You’ve actually done the tests and not just read the content.
- If you still experience problems contact SkillSoft Technical Support at 1-866-SKIL-HELP (754-5435).

If you have completed a course but it shows up as not completed on your My Report:
You probably have not achieved a score of 80% or more on each lesson. You can take the mastery assessments as many times as necessary to reach 80%.
