The 2008 SSTP program dates are from June 22 to August 1. There is some flexibility on the start date to allow for regents exams and other potential June conflicts.  The application deadline date is March 7, 2008.

In this program, students conduct scientific research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Students will spend approximately 40 hours per week researching a field of interest to them. Social and academic activities, such as seminars presented by research scientists on ethics issues, public policy, and career choices, will occupy the evenings.

The University of Iowa Colleges of Engineering, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, and the Graduate College all participate in this program. During the final week of the program all students will present the results of their research project to the other SSTP participants, faculty, and research staff at a formal symposium. All students will also write a formal abstract summarizing their 6 weeks of research. Research projects typically are available in:

Anatomy * Biochemistry * Biology * Chemistry * Dentistry *

Internal Medicine * Microbiology * Pathology * Pediatrics *
