Course Objectives
-State the differences between ionizing & nonionizing radiation. Be able to identify the medical imaging modalities using each type of radiation & apply the inverse square law to effectively reduce one’s radiation exposure

-State the concepts to accurately predict which tissues will be most susceptible to the detrimental effects of ionizing radiation, the biological effects of radiation on tissue, the appropriate safe distance & shielding methods, & the difference between stochastic & non-stochastic effects

The Place of LARCs in Pregnancy Prevention for the Adolescent Population

The purpose of the online module is to educate nurse practitioners on the use of long acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) for contraception in adolescents, addressing identified barriers to their acceptance by providers in the literature including knowledge on the methods, discussion on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommendations related to LARCs, education on the government policies related to contraception, and instruction on how to gain training in these methods, as well as access to resources that can be used in clinic to assist with clinical decision making and education.

Human Trafficking Training

PURPOSE
The purpose of the training is to provide information regarding human sexual trafficking to providers/first responders working with victims in Iowa. An overview to human trafficking, its relationship to other crimes and learning how to identify victims and the vulnerabilities that put them at risk will be reviewed. The Iowa Attorney General’s state wide strategic plan on human trafficking will be discussed. Attendees will develop an understanding of the unique and common roles of multidisciplinary professionals involved in responding to sexual human trafficking victims through plenary and breakout sessions. An afternoon breakout session for Law enforcement only will be offered.

INTENDED AUDIENCE
Law Enforcement Officers, Advocates, Medical Personnel, DHS, Social Workers & Other Service Providers.

The meeting will facilitate exchange of scientific ideas/knowledge; promote career development and networking opportunities; and encourage participation by students, minorities and women from colleges and universities in Iowa and neighboring states.

Some highlights of this two-day event are the following:
- Keynote research presentations
- IPS Lifetime Achievement Award
- Workshop on diverse career opportunities for students/trainees
- Workshop on the advantages of using radiotelemetry system in research
- Short talks by early-career investigators
- Abstract-based poster and oral sessions. Awards will be given to best presenters at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels
